What do I feel about India?

I go back to India almost every summer and it usually goes by in a whirlwind of colour, chaos and drama. From ostentatious weddings to family gatherings, mass murder of goats to daylight robbery, death by snake to death by bore wells, the list never really ends.

Every time I travel from Singapore to India, I experience this type of relapse, a paradigm shift. As my mind eases from the sheltered, carefully simulated and rigidly planned days of Singapore into the disordered and spontaneous world of the Indian streets, I feel giddy. I think that is what you could call vertigo.

Even though I do feel dizzy, something always makes me regain my sense of orientation, and as cringey as it may sound, that thing is family. For me, the best parts of India is family and its clear, unpolluted night skies (but more crucially the former).

Point is, despite the tragedies and shortcomings, my family keeps me grounded.

Last summer, I brought my DSLR around with me everywhere, just trying to capture the most inconspicuous moments and turn them into something beautiful. I dislike photographs and still frames and I adore movement. It is the little habits and ticks that make up a person. With this belief, I set about my journey and this was my product! I learnt A LOT about video editing and I (did not) cry when my mac crashed and videos got lost. Totally.
